Are you an Australian citizen or permanent resident looking to sponsor your parents for a PR visa? 

There are two main categories of an Australian parent visas – Contributory and Non-contributory.

Subclass 103 (parent) visa

This is a permanent residency visa. To be eligible to apply for this visa one must:

1. have a child who is:
   have lawfully lived in Australia for at least 2 years.
   • Australian citizen;or
   • Australian permanent resident;or
   • Eligible New Zealander
2. meet the balance of family test.  

The current processing time for a subclass 103 visa is over 13 years. 

Subclass 143 (contributory parent) visa 

This is a permanent residency visa. To be eligible for this visa one must:

1. have a child who is:
   have lawfully lived in Australia for minimum 2 years.
   • Australian citizen;or
   • Australian permanent resident;or
   • Eligible New Zealander
2. meet the balance of family test.  
3. pay a secondary visa application charge of $43,600 per parent (June 2014). 

The current processing time for a subclass 143 visa is around 13 months.
